Jonathan Turney

Born in London and raised in Lancashire, Jonathan graduated from Oxford University (St. Peter’s College) in 2000 with an MA in Biological Sciences. He has a particular interest in all things botanical. A qualified chartered accountant with Deloitte, he spent over a decade working in the City, financing clean tech and renewable energy projects. He joined the teaching profession in 2013, receiving his PGCE from Buckingham University in 2014. Prior to joining Shrewsbury in 2022, Jonathan was Head of Biology and an Assistant Deputy Head at a day-boarding school in Hampshire. A keen expeditioner, he has lived and worked in sub-Saharan Africa and has travelled extensively in South America and SE Asia. A qualified football coach, Jonathan coaches both boys and girls football teams at Shrewsbury. He mentors prospective Oxbridge students and tutors in Ridgemount House. He is married to Rose and they have three children and a black Labrador.
