Summer School Programme 2025
Welcome
It is my great pleasure to introduce you to our Shrewsbury School Summer School Courses for 2025. Each of our courses will be ‘serious fun’ – and we are proud that each one has been designed by and will be delivered by teachers from the School. We will be sharing our expertise and passion for teaching and learning to give your child the opportunity to pursue areas of personal interest and to stretch themselves in support of longer-term ambitions. We will be offering a fully immersive boarding experience with the highest standards of pastoral care. So, whether in our fantastic accommodation on our beautiful campus, or on excursions to a range of locations in Shropshire and across the country, we hope and expect that your child will enjoy and benefit from our bespoke programmes.
Darwin Bioscience
Inspired by Darwin’s ground-breaking discoveries, taught through lessons and dazzling trips that are serious fun, students will be enriched with new scientific skills and motived to think curiously, challenging themselves to create their own globally distinctive careers. When studying this course, it will encourage students to grow their scientific skills, allowing them to develop inquisitive minds ready for the next level of study at school and university. This is a course that only Shrewsbury can offer and we are excited about sharing it with you.
Darwin Geoscience
Shrewsbury is uniquely placed geographically to study long term environmental change and its influence of the evolution of all living things. During the 19th Century, as the scientific revolution swept across Europe, pioneers in the study of Geology and Earth Science were drawn to these landscapes. This course will allow students to explore the role of volcanism, tectonics, and climate change in shaping the world around us. Students will have the opportunity, during field excursions, to recreate the famous 1831 trip of Charles Darwin and Cambridge Professor of Geology Adam Sedgwick into the heart of Eryri National Park (Snowdonia).
Darwin Maths Evolution
Darwin Maths Evolution is an exploration of the discoveries of Charles Darwin and some of the most influential Mathematicians in history through to current day AI. This course will encourage students to be inquisitive and investigative, allowing them to develop a deeper understanding of the language of Mathematics and logical links within it. Through classroom discussions, practical experiments, and eye-opening trips, this course is guaranteed to prepare students for more advanced study and to provide an unmatched insight into this interesting subject.
Darwin: Inspiring Global Leaders
Celebrating Darwin’s legacy, students will learn about the leadership style which made him great, exploring topics of resilience, motivation, problem solving, and collaboration, all supplemented by a wide range of activities to shape future global innovators. From discovering how successful teams work, to maximising the opportunities of AI, students will learn through lessons and experience that are serious fun, empowering them to lead businesses or meet the future challenges of the world.
