Accommodation at Shrewsbury

Shrewsbury School has a beautiful green-hearted campus site on the banks of the River Severn within one of the most historic county towns in England.

If all is right within, trouble not” – Shrewsbury School’s motto is arguably even more relevant for 21st century teenagers than it has ever been.

Our students’ wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do at Shrewsbury. We provide students with an environment where they can flourish and which provides them with the confidence to reach their potential and often exceed their wildest expectations.

Mary Sidney Hall

Mary Sidney Hall (MSH) is a modern and comfortable boarding house that can accommodate up to 80 Salopian pupils.

Summer School students will be placed in spacious dormitories that may accommodate 2-4 people per room. There are shared bathroom facilities throughout the house, with over half of the bedrooms in MSH offering ensuite bathrooms.

In House there are several communal areas that offer students plenty of space and comfort to relax and catch up with their peers. There are multiple study areas and kitchen facilities that can be used to make food and drink away from the main catering hall.

Residential staff will be based in accommodation within the boarding house to offer 24/7 support if needed.

The accommodation is fully fitted with WiFi/ Ethernet connections so that students can stay in touch with parents and guardians day and night.

MSH is located in our green-hearted campus with views overlooking one of our common lawn areas and sports pitches, as well as other well-known buildings in our striking campus. Students will open the main door to MSH onto an external seating and games area that borders our green spaces, enabling instant access to some of our evening facilities.

MSH is a short walk to our main catering hall and to our teaching facilities, which range from state-of-the-art classrooms to fully equipped laboratories and study spaces. Around the site we also have a dedicated Eco Garden offering a space of calm to promote mental well-being, and a path down to the school’s boathouse, with brilliant views of the River Severn. We also have our own School Shop on site, which as well as selling food and drink, offers stationary other items that our students may require.

Shrewsbury town centre is also just a 15 minute walk from the accommodation, which students may visit as part of their Summer School course.

Our Houses

The houses we have at the School are fundamental to our pupils well-being and creates a ‘home from home’ environment for the students.

Our Houses make for the perfect place to come back to after a day of learning. Each house has a common room providing ample space for students to relax and unwind, study areas for them to continue their educational journey as well as social areas with televisions, games, table tennis and other activities that will allow students to bond outside of the classroom.

Our modern spacious accommodation includes a varied number of beds, with many having ensuite facilities.

Pastoral Care

The houses we have at the School are fundamental to the students’ well-being and creates a ‘home from home’ environment for the students.

Students will be placed in a School boarding house that will have a full pastoral care team who will support them throughout their Summer Schools course.

The site is secure at all times of the day and night, with site wardens employed by the school ensuring the safety of all those on school premises.

Staying in touch at Shrewsbury

We are skilled at helping young people to feel a part of a community as well as connecting them with new friends from all over the world.

Shrewsbury School has excellent Wi-Fi facilities and any visiting pupils will be able to connect to the internet and keep parents and guardians up to date with their activities.

During the lessons we want the pupils to be fully engaged, so there may be some instances where mobile devices are not permitted.

We would love to keep parents and guardians during the course and we will keep you up to date with the activities that students are enjoying and will regularly post on the School’s social media pages, showcasing what students are learning during their time at Shrewsbury.
