Summer School Staff

Chris Wain joined Shrewsbury School as Head of Futures in April 2019. Prior to that, he spent over five years in the Further Education sector, supporting and leading student services teams, following nearly a decade of working as a Personal and Senior Personal Advisor for the Connexions Services in Worcestershire, a role that combined both youth and careers work, as well as colleges. He has been placed in a range of education settings, varying from Pupil Referral Units to state secondary schools, and Chris feels these experiences have really helped shape his character and skill set. As well as his formal degree, he has a range of qualifications in careers guidance and person-centred counselling, and has previously volunteered for a bereavement service, supporting individuals who have lost family members. He has been a lead Designated Safeguarding Lead at a 6th Form College and has led and supported a variety of residential educational trips. Away from work, Chris is a keen follower of rugby and enjoys doing a bit of coaching with the school 1st XV and supports Liverpool FC. He tries his best to keep fit (a constant challenge) and enjoys slowly running the odd 10km race when time allows!

George R is our current joint Head of School for the 2025/26 academic year. Taking Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Maths for A level alongside an EPQ, George has an offer to read medicine at Corpus Christi, University of Cambridge from September 2026. In his free time, he finds enjoyment leading the Big Band as 1st trumpet alongside other musical commitments like the Symphony Orchestra. He also participates in the Model United Nations society as a long time member of 5 years, having run it as president last year.
